Chess quote :

"What is the difference between chess and football? Everybody understands football, but nobody plays it. Everybody plays chess, but nobody understands it. Everything is relative. (Vladimir Kramnik)"

Xavier Pichelin is 1st FICGS chess champion...

After his win in the 1st candidates final, Xavier accepted to talk about the match, his tournament and his views around correspondence chess, chess engines and so on. You may read the complete interview (in french) here.

Freestyle chess...

Dear chessfriends, the next FICGS chess freestyle cup waiting list will be open in a few weeks. This is a 6 rounds swiss tournament, time control : 30 minutes + 15 sec. / move. Prize is 100% of the entry fees in E-Points. FIDE GM & IM, FICGS / ICCF GM, SM & IM are invited to enter the waiting list for free !

A freestyle Go (Weiqi, Baduk) tournament will happen at the same time.

Chessfriends meeting in Lucca...

Internet chess is one way among others to meet new friends, and sometimes two correspondence chess players from different countries meet for real, that's what happened to SIM Eros Riccio (winner of the 1st FICGS freestyle cup & 8th Playchess freestyle tournament, Italia) and Thibault de Vassal (FICGS webmaster, France) who met in Lucca, Italia. Of course, it was a good time to play a few blitz games over the board !

Chess, poker & casino games...

The growing popularity of poker texas hold'em attracts more and more chess players, by its complex tactics and probabilities. Could texas hold'em become the next king of games ?

You can play both chess and poker online. And they are both two great mind games. It is just as important in a poker hand to be able to read your opponents figuring out their next move, as it is in a game of chess.

Online gaming isn't all about chess, there are gambling online games such as blackjack and slots as well. If you want the make the most of the experience, you may sign up for an online casino bonus before you start playing.

Seo forums, news blog & more...

Search engines optimization is probably the most popular game nowadays, webmasters are the players, world wide web is the giant board and Google is the referee, editing the constantly changing rules of the game.

FICGS also hosts its own SEO forums, discussion forums, a social network, a hot news & buzz blog and a free web directory, feel free to submit your website to get more backlinks.

Poker Holdem at FICGS !!!

Finally, one of the biggest update this year !

Poker Holdem (or Poker Texas Hold'em) is available at FICGS !

This should be a start for long discussions... It was quite complicated to implement so I hope there will be no bug (please report if necessary). Please do not forget to read the complete rules here :

http://www.ficgs.com/membership.html#poker_holdem

If you estimate you're an experienced player, please just let me know (through the form in My account) and I'll update your "poker holdem ELO" to 1800.

Highlighted article :

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1

Microsoft will release IE 8 Beta 1 in the first half of 2008. Internet Explorer 8 would have passed a key web standards test, "Acid2 Browser Test" from the Web Standards Project. Older versions of IE don't support some current standards such as CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and RSS (Really Simple Syndication), now it should work fine. It seems that the popularity of open-source browser Mozilla Firefox gave good intentions to Microsoft.
