Would an anti-draw rule make the world champioship more interesting? 2007/09/25 13:49 Karma: 2
The 2007 chess world championship is in full swing and I cannot say that there weren't a few games I found interesting. However, most of the games end in a draw. In fact, I did a rough counting and found that about 3/4 of the games are drawn. With 4 games played on any given day it means that we cannot expect more than one decisive game per day.

Do you think the games would be more interesting with some kind of anti-draw rule in place?

Grischuk-Kramnik, drawn in only 13 moves. What more can I say??

There is a press conference video available at chessvibes.com where Kramnik had to face some tough questions. Apparently, Grischuk made some kind of mistake resulting in a drawn position. Anyway, I still don't like it

I think draws should only occur when it's stalemate, or lack of material. Not just agreed draws. I may not have enough experience to know how to fix it, but I'm sure some out there are.

I don't think it matters enough to the common chess player though. They just want to play.

May be it would really be a good idea to force players to battle it out. At the very least we may get to watch grandmasters blundering in basic but intricate endgames
