Chess movies 2007/07/16 07:41 Karma: 2
Does anybody know some good chess movies?

i just watched "Game over: Kasparov and the machine". It is a documentary about the match between Kasparov and IBM's Big Blue computer. I really enjoyed the movie even though all the conspiracy theory in it was a bit disturbing.

Are there more movies with/about chess around?

There's of course the famous 'Searching for Bobby Fischer'. Lesser known would be 'The Luzhin defense'. Enjoy!

Look here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/6924073.stm - Why do the movies love chess?

Interesting article, indeed, with a few more chess movie tips. I like this part of the article:

Hollywood is a place often chided for being disproportionately full of airheads, and movie-makers therefore use chess to add gravitas into movies. And it's gravitas that comes with a bit of interaction. Illustrating the cleverness of your baddie by showing him with his head in an encyclopaedia is not quite so engaging.

Thanks for letting me know about this!
