Rockbox has a dual boot feature (as well as the ability to auto-update its database to keep up with iTunes inserted files). So, if you want to use rockbox just to play games, thats fine. With a couple of key presses, you are back in normal iPod mode.

Can the chess code be modified to a different game, chinese checkers for example?

Those of you who not only like chess but also music probably own some kind of mp3 player. In fact, many people seem to carry these little boxes around all the time.
