chess position This is a position from one of my first blitz chess games at the Internet Chess Club (ICC) with me attempting to play something similar to the Tarrasch defense as black. After 1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. a3 c5 4. dxc5 Bxc5 white played 5. b4 threatening to capture my bishop. These realtively blunt threats are a thing that seem to occur quite often during blitz games, at least at beginner-level. Most of my opponents in the few blitz games I played so far tried to pose as many threats as quickly as possible until I make a mistake, which usually happens sooner or later (which is fine with me because learning to avoid blunders is my main goal right now). In the game I retreated my bishop with 5. ... Be7. The post-game analysis showed that 5. b4?? is not a threat at all but gave me the possiblility to win some material with a combination. Do you see it? At the end, I lost the game due to a blunder in move 19. - this time interestingly not because I was under pressure but because I "saw" a (non-existing) tactical pattern that made me "sacrifice" a bishop...

Qf6 is the first move that comes to mind.
By the way, I had some trouble to comment on your posts before. Now I pressed show/hide comment form what seems to make the difference.

I just knew it had to be to do with Bxf2 but I couldn't work out what. I need to work on combinations.

Crafty recommends 5. ... Bxf2+ 6. Kxf2 Qf6+ 7. Nf3 Qxa1 but Tempo's suggestion to play 5. ... Qf6 immediately is evaluated only fractions of a pawn below that. However, Shredder prefers the option to play 5. ... Qf6 directly followed by 6. bxc5 Qxa1.

Personally, I like the 5. ... Qf6 solution better because it seems to be more direct to me.

Tempo: thanks for lettin me know that you had trouble with the comment forms. I will take a look in the options and see what I can do about it.
