The reunification match between Kramnik and Topalov is an exciting event for most chess fans. However, when grandmasters make great moves or even blunders, patzers like me simply do not have the experience to recognize or even comprehend what is going on. Chess masters may read games in algebraic notation like other people read newspapers, but for beginners and probably even good amateurs, good comments and game annotations are necessary to understand the game. Here are a few reliable sources on the web to find post-game coverage:

  • The Week in Chess (TWIC) has the games available for download in several common formats shortly after the game ends. For instance, the first game of the 2006 chess world championship match with comments by Mark Crowther and nice game annotations by IM Malcolm Pein can be found here. Take also a look at the beta version of TWIC's newly designed site.
  • Mig Greengard is frequently publishing annotations on his Daily Dirt Chess Blog soon after the games. Discussions of the ongoing game can be found in the comments of this blog.
  • Good commentary with photos of the games can be also found at Chessbase.com, click here for extensive annotations of the first chess game of the Topalov-Kramnik match.
  • Susan Polgar is also posting game analysis on her blog.

Please leave a comment if you know of any other websites or blogs with good game annotations.
