Chess videos on the Internet - part II PDF Print E-mail

Chess training consists of three different areas: 1. practice, 2. analyze your own games and the games of other players, and 3. study of chess openings, tactics, endgames, etc. In the previous post I introduced Chess-Videos.com, a site that gives everybody the opportunity to make and watch annotated chess games. But what about study? Of course there is a wide selection of chess training DVDs available featuring several more-or-less famous grandmasters. However, there is also PE's chess cast, a video blog which is getting close to one year old now.

The video blog contains many short lessons on basic tactical themes, endgames, and strategy as well as a few annotated master games. Most of the lessons are well made and it shows that the author has some experience teaching chess. Some episodes which are around 15 minutes long are targeted to absolute beginners and explain how the different pieces move while others cover more advanced topics such as positional concepts. The vlog is updated frequently which makes it sometimes hard to find material if you are looking for a particular topic. Some kind of index or tag system would be very helpful here although the quality of the material makes the time spend browsing through the vlog's archive well spend.

Hello Sciurus,
[From PE's Chess Cast]
Thanks for the indirect tip! I on occasion surf the web for what's out there about my podcast. I found your review and took note. I took the time to make a list a "Podcast Index" to the podcast and categorized them So viewers can review previous podcast by category or simply look for specific topics. Now I'll just have to take time to update it, probably once a month.
Thanks again. PE
