Yesterday, former world chess champion Bobby Fischer died at age 64 in Reykjavík, Iceland. Inspired by DG who wrote about the strange symmetry of Fischer passing away at age 64, I did a quick database search for games Fischer played that lasted exactly 64 moves. I found this little gem played 1970 against Manfred Christoph from a simultaneous exhibition in Solingen. Bobby Fischer lost in 64 moves. His brilliant victories will continue to entertain generations of chess players.
Manfred Christoph was West German chess champion in 1969. (I am not sure if the German champion and the person who beat Fischer in above game are identical.) Comments (0)
