Tournament of LEPers - first round loss PDF Print E-mail

The tournament of LEPers is in full swing and I have to say that I am already having fun despite having lost the first round. It was nice playing live chess again and 'meeting' other chess bloggers is - well - priceless. After some lively discussion of lease conditions with my landlord I arrived late for my game against Chessaholic. Luckily for me the game started relatively quiet, even though it seems that both of us had no clue about the opening (I only very recently started to experiment with the english opening). In the end, I messed up and allowed Chessaholic to get two connected passed pawns, leaving me no chances (aside from the draw by repitition I overlooked...) in the end, see my analysis below. Anyhow, I try to focus more on the good things lately: I got an enjoyable hour of chess and met another fun guy I am looking forward to meeting again for a game or two. Next round this week against Blunderprone.

Nice commentary. Even with the 30 sec increment, it seems time becomes an issue from time to time. (Actually, it IS a relatively short time control still if you're used to longer OTB games)

Chessaholic - I put you on my notify list at FICS. If I only had more time to hang out there...

LEP: I guess my problem is not slow OTB but worse: I play mostly correspondence chess with 10days per move time controls ;-)

I'm back from my travels 1/2 way around the world. Can you play Tuesday evening 7/15?

Polly:
welcome back! Tuesdays don't work for me. Later in the week is fine though. I am in the EST timezone, so something like Thursday 9pm EST would be great.

A nice game, both of you make some strategical errors, but the analysis is great smilies/smiley.gif

Your end analysis is a bit off.
Black will not play 32. ...-Nxd2 but
32. ... Qxd2
33. QXQ (since Qxb5 allows Qf2 mate)
33. ... NxQ with a winning position

(I am going to start a chessblog at http://chesstiger.vox.com, can you give me some advise on how and what to put on that blog?)
